Message from Dean,

Faculty of Earth and Environmental Sciences,

Faculty of Earth and Environmental Sciences (FEES) is one of the old Faculties in the University of Balochistan, Quetta. The Faculty has eminent professors and young scientists of international repute and is well equipped with necessary tools, labs and seminar libraries. The Faculty put emphasis on academics and research that lead us to meaningful guidance and policy formulation that contributes in sustainable development. The Faculty offers graduate, postgraduate and doctoral program under a standard and proficient curriculum. The FEES arrange special lectures, national/regional seminars and training workshops to highlight present and future challenges that play key role in building confidence and professional vision of our students.

The Faculty is vibrant and interacts with other science faculties to share expertise and experiences. The Faculty interacts with other government and nongovernmental organizations with in the defined rules regulation of the University to maximize the faculty scope. Almost all colleges at provincial level from Gwadar to Zhob have the disciplines (subjects) of earth sciences, thus in that context the departments/centers of the FEES give admissions leading to higher degrees from all over the province and serving not only urban agglomerations but also remote rural areas reflects  the importance of the Faculty. I would love to welcome students to the FEES, from each nook and corner of Balochistan to accomplish and polish their talent successfully and go to serve the humanity within their respective domains. I am proud to mention that by contributing their expertise our students not only earn good name for UoB but certainly provide strength to our society and nation.

The Faculty embraces the disciplines of knowledge that directly address the earth and environmental sciences, its spatial variations, similarities, associated technicalities and problems with their solutions.  Balochistan is located in tectonically active, geologically rich and arid to semiarid climatic condition where still we have to explore the ways for better adaptation of life through scientific research and findings. The natural hazards anchored in the atmospheric circulation and dynamics of the lithospheric plates got tremendous significance to be understood in the scenario of high vulnerable population living in diversified environmental and geomorphological conditions in Balochistan. The contemporary Quetta needs to be safe which lifted up from the ruins after the 1935 earth quack played havoc with life and property. The energy crisis is our major national and regional problem. Balochistan has great potential in renewable energy including wind, solar and tidal energy. The climate change has become a challenging task in regional and global perspective therefore manipulating climate variability and atmospheric resources has become instrumental in achieving goal of sustainability in economic development. Therefore, training of students in these scientific areas is the top priority of the FEES. Our successful students are already serving in various institutions and organizations at provincial, national and international levels in compliance with future challenges.

I welcome you to harvest the opportunities with us and make your future brilliant and promising. The record is evident that our graduates are equipped with broad base as well as specialized knowledge in the fields of earth and environmental sciences. I am certain to say that FEES one of the scientific wings of UoB is doing the best right in the heart of strong traditional society.
