Department Of Botany

Introduction

The department of Botany was established in 1979. Initially it was working as a department of life Sciences and later on started functioning separately as Department of Botany from March, 1980. It is responsible to impart training in the field of plant sciences at post graduate level. The Dynamic academic program comprising of courses leading to M. Sc. degree as well as research for M. Phil. and Ph.D. degrees and independent research projects undertaken by the various faculty members. During past 25 years 3 Ph.D.s, 20 M. Phils and 430 M. Sc. have been produced. There are fifteen regular and three contract based faculty are imparting higher education and conducting scientific research in different disciplines of plant sciences. The department has been fully equipment by Higher Education Commission with basic and modern sophisticated equipment. The department has a seminar library, a museum, herbarium and laboratories of, Biochemistry and Physiology, Environmental Biology, Taxonomy, Phycology and Ecology. Departmental Library having a large number of text and reference books and some back issues of journals. The department of Botany maintains and sustains close coordination with different international and national academic, research, industrial organization including ARI, PCSIR, WWF, IUCN, BEPA, etc.
