CENTRE OF EXCELLENCE IN MINERALOGY

INTRODUCTION

The Centre of Excellence in Mineralogy (C.E.M.) was established in 1974 in the premises of the University of Balochistan through a Gazette notification of the Federal Government, following the announcement of New Education Policy 1972-80, under the Act of Parliament 1974. The above Act was revised in1976 to be called “Centres of Excellence Act, 1976.

The C.E.M. is funded by the Federal Ministry of Education through Higher Education Commission and is managed and supervised by its own Board of Governors (see Annexure-1) under the Chairmanship of the Vice Chancellor, University of Balochistan. The academic policies of the Centre are framed by the Academic Committee of the C.E.M (See Annexure-2) subject to the approval by the Board of Advanced Studies and Research, Academic Council and the Syndicate of the University of Balochistan. The administrative and financial policies are governed by the rules and regulations made or adopted by the Board of Governors. The Director is responsible for implementing the academic, administrative and financial policies of the Centre.

OBJECTIVES OF THE CENTRE

 

The main objectives of the Centre of Excellence in Mineralogy as defined in the Act (IX of 1976) are

 

(a)        to engage in goal-oriented high-level teaching and research;

 

(b)        to train research workers;

 

(c)        to establish .M.Phil., Ph.D. and other programmes in the relevant discipline in accordance with the standard and requirements of the University in which the Centre is established;

 

(d)        to promote-cooperation in inter-disciplinary relationship with other teaching and research establishment;

 

(e)        to arrange conferences, seminars and refresher courses for the development of teaching and research; and

 

(f)         conduct teaching and research in such particular discipline as is assigned to it by the Federal Government in consultation with the University in which the Centre is established.

 

VOCATIONAL JOB OPPORTUNITIES

 

The M.Phil. and Ph.D. graduates of the Centre have great opportunities of  getting jobs in universities, research institutions and in public and private organizations working in Mineral and  Oils & Gas Sectors.
