Introduction

1.       Introduction

1.1       The discipline of education is a foundational subject in social sciences crucially contributing towards national development. Education is concerned with human resource development for efficient functioning of educational system. The discipline of education is founded on scientific study of human behavior including teacher and students and the functioning of educational organizations at all levels. The discipline of education covers all aspects of educational system from academic performance to zeal and motivation among teachers and students. The discipline of education is inter-disciplinary in its nature. It is concerned with human psychology, organizational behavior, leadership, economics of education, testing and measuring the performance of individual and institutions. Discipline of education develops a boarder perspective among its students to prepare them for leadership roles to bring about positive social change in the educational institutions and society.   

1.2       The Department of Education is the premier teacher education institution in Balochistan. One year Master of Education (M.Ed.) program was introduced in 1976 to extend opportunities for an advanced degree in the discipline of education.

One-Year M.Ed. and B.Ed. Evening programs on Self-Finance basis were launched in 1999 to provide opportunities for professional growth and development for working school teachers. A regular two-year Master of Arts in Education (M.A. Education) program of studies was introduced in 2005 to provide pre-service teacher education and training

2.1              The Department of Education will be leader and catalyst for change through collaborative educational programs and research that responds to the complex needs of individuals and the society.

2.2              Our supportive and challenging programs will prepare students for meaningful lives and successful careers in a rapidly changing world.

2.3              Strengthening school education is of critical importance. We will ensure that scholarly, pedagogical and technological expertise of the Department is available to our schools on an ongoing basis.

2.4              We look forward to a rich and competent faculty, well versed in the art of modern instructional techniques and dedicated to the promotion of quality education in Balochistan.

3. Mission

The Department of Education is committed to providing a challenging, facilitative, innovative and collegial teaching learning environment to foster high quality academic and professional preparation of teacher-leaders and educational professionals. The Department is committed to development of academic excellence, critical thinking, effective communication and interpersonal skills, and development of social responsibility and life-long learning among educational professionals who as collaborative partners are committed to teaching, research, and service as subject-matter experts, capable of facilitating high levels of student learning in national and global perspectives. The Department is committed to research and scholarly activities of the students and dissemination of knowledge and understanding by providing high quality student experiences through a comprehensive network of support and guidance services and a range of social-cultural activities. The Department of Education is committed to recognize and value the contribution of each student and institution in achieving this mission.

4. Objectives

4.1      To produce professional teachers, who have the theoretical knowledge and understanding, combined with practical skills, competencies and commitment to teach.

4.2      To inculcate the habit of enquiry and seek the research based knowledge and understanding with a view to improve teaching and learning in schools.
