Department of Geology
The primary objective is to prepare students for M. Sc. and B.S. 4-years program in geology. This program is designed to prepare students who, at the end of their course of studies in geology, are competent enough to undertake work in the field and laboratories as professional geologists or carry out further studies leading to MS/ M. Phil-Ph.D. degrees.
Duration
M. Sc. (Geology) is a two years program. The first year is designed for to study core courses, whereas in the second year students opt for their fields of interest. Several fields of interests are offered, such as Mineralogy and Petrology, Economic Geology, Engineering Geology, Paleontology and Stratigraphy, Petroleum Geology, Sedimentology, Hydrogeology, Industrial Geology, Environmental Geology and Structure, Tectonics and Neotectonics.
B.S. is a 4-years program. In first two year beside geology subject allied subjects are taught. The courses of 3rd year & 4th year are same as the M. Sc. courses.
Admission
Students who have passed B.Sc. with subject of geology are eligible for admission in M. Sc. program. 25 seats are available in the department for admission in M. Sc. class, and students who have passed F. Sc. are eligible for admission in B.S. 4-years 25, seats are available in the department for admission in B.S. 4-years program.
ADMISSION PROCEDURE
4-Years B.S. Program
Admission to the first year of the 4-Years B.S. Program in Applied Geology will be open to any student who:

Has passed the intermediate Examination with Pre-Engineering/Pre-Medical/ ICS groups.

Is medically fit. Beside general health, the student should be capable of undertaking climbing heights during field work and should not suffer from colour blindness for the purpose of optical work.

Should not be more than 24 years of age.
In case of candidates securing equal number of marks, merit will be determined on the basis of marks obtained in the immediately lower examination
Number of seats = 25
Distribution of seats
Open Merit = 10%
Quetta District = 15%
Rest of Balochistan = 75%
In case of unavailability of students this policy may be relaxed accordingly.

Application forms will be available from the Habib Bank University Branch. Attested photocopies of the following documents must be accompanied.

Migration certificate in the applicant has passed F. Sc. from board other than the Board of intermediate and Secondary Education, Balochistan, Quetta.
List of selected candidates along with the waiting list will be displayed on the notice Board of the department.
M. Sc in Geology Program
Admission in M.Sc. Geology will be open to any student who:

Has passed the B.Sc. Examination along with the subject of Geology
