DEPARTMENT OF RENEWABLE ENERGY

INTRODUCTION

Renewable energy sources make a significant contribution in the development of the country. It has estimated that new and renewable sources of energy, at present, do not need than 15% of the global energy requirements, which is prognosticated to increases the coming days.

The development of renewable energy opens up to the prospects of increasing indigenous energy supply and thereby contributing to more self relied economy. The development of renewable energy sources also creates new option to responds to the energy requirements of the rural and domestic sectors. The use of renewable energy sources is desirable because the rising price and the pollution associated with the burning of fusil fuels. There are varieties of promising technologies, viable for village level applications, which are small scale and decentralization. There are low cost, simple, both in operation and maintenance, uses local skills and resources endowments. The convention sources of fuel can be supplemented in the rural areas through the introduction of renewable technologies. There is a large potential of energy supply in the rural area  through

1. Solar energy and its application   2. Energy Conversion Systems

3. Wind energy 4. Biogas Technology   5. Hybrid (Solar and wind)

A coherent approach to examine various planning and policy issues related to market penetration of renewable energy technologies are relatively easy to determine what renewable energy technologies are feasible in a few pilot sites. However, in order to determine the same on a national basis a more comprehensive approach is necessary.

The importance of this new technology cannot be over-emphasized for the development of Pakistan and specially the rural/interior areas of our country. Pakistan is rich in solar intensity and wind potential.
