In considering the need for effective resource-utilization, efficient resource management, enhancement of administrative capacity and improvement of managerial talents in Balochistan, the University of Balochistan upgraded the Department of Administrative Sciences, (established in 1989) to the status of Institute of Management Sciences in year 2000. In changing and developing society, management sciences play a vital role in the process of planned social change and economic development. The institution of management sciences (IMS) aims at producing personnel with high qualities of character and intellect in order to contribute productivity towards development efforts in a country.
The IMS has established high quality of study programs, research, analysis and practice environment and since inception has created cadres of high quality of HR that are contributing in various institutions as leaders, managers and administrators.

BBA is offered in two program shifts:
Public Administration prepares students for careers as civil servants, like government officer,
health administrator, urban planner, budget analyst, etc.
BPA is offered in Morning Shift only.

When the admission process starts, it is announced on IMS website and advertised in all the major national newspapers. Commences in the month of October for Spring Semester Admissions.
IMS allows the students to apply for admission whose final results have not been announced subject to the condition that they have no deficiency in the previous years of their academic career. The admission may be conditional pending submission of the required results.
The IMS conducts aptitude tests at University of Balochistan, Quetta. Interviews are conducted in University of Balochistan, Quetta.
