IT Infrastructure:
To support and strengthen quality higher education, the UoB has state-of-art IT infrastructure connected via PERN. This UoB IT infrastructure includes In-Campus network connectivity (through fiber optics, UTP & wireless), 37 computer labs that facilitate in providing faculty/students the access to internet and to digital library (E-Books, E-journals, UoB Library Catalogue's etc). Video conferencing facility is provided which is facilitating interactive learning, through which lectures are organized in different universities while the students and faculty attend them locally in UoB, with interactive questions and answers sessions. Furthermore, another important facility is that the faculty and students can download the latest Microsoft software products (via HEC-Microsoft Strategic Education Alliance Agreement).

PERN2 (Pakistan Education and Research Network):
In 2010 UoB switched from PERN1 to PERN2, and presently UoB IT network is directly connected @620Mpbs (allocated bandwidth) to PERN2 that is a national research and education network of Pakistan which connects premiere educational and research institutions of the country. PERN has strengthened and equipped our faculty/students to focus on collaborative research, knowledge sharing, resource sharing, and distance learning by connecting people through the use of Intranet and Internet resources.
 

FACILITIES:
 

Digital Library:
Faculty and students of UoB can directly access the digital library that provides access to international scholarly literature based on electronic (online) delivery, providing access to high quality, peer-reviewed journals, databases, articles and e-Books across a wide range of disciplines. This facility can be accessed from anywhere within the campus including the computer labs, office computers, laptops etc. To further facilitate the scholars/students for accessing the digital resources, dedicated modern computer labs have also been furnished within the central library. Additionally, the digital libraries facility can also be accessed from home by the faculty/students through UoB VPN (virtual private network) facility.
 

Video Conferencing:
University of Balochistan has been using video conferencing facility since 2006. Time to time various interactive sessions included trainings, seminars, workshops, meetings and Virtual Education Program Pakistan (VEPP) are held.

Campus Management Solution:
UoB IT team has developed (in-house) a web-based campus management solution that has facilitated recording the registration and admission data. Furthermore, the same data has been linked to examination and step-wise the examination section of UoB is being shifted towards using this software and to utilize the software on all exams. The finance section also has an state-of-Art software system, that helps in running day to day UoB financial business processes.

Web Portal& Email Facility:
UoB IT team has developed and deployed (in-house) UoB web portal (http://www.uob.edu.pk) running on a web-server hosted in-campus. This portal is also being upgraded and a newer version of it will be launched soon based on a full fledge CMS (Content Management System).
UoB email service, UoB library online catalogues, departmental information etc can be accessed by the staff/faculty/students through UoB web-portal. This portal is also equipped with search facility and furthermore a news section that facilitates in providing useful UoB happenings.

Smart University Internet Facility (wired / wireless):
Each department within UoB main campus is connected to internet through wired and wireless mediums. .

Access to Licensed Microsoft Software Products:
Licensed Microsoft software distribution for UoB faculty & students through HEC-Microsoft Academic Alliance program has facilitated students/faculty via NSSA (National students software accessibility ELMS. Furthermore, the distribution of licensed software DVD's has majorly facilitated in installing/upgrading the latest licensed versions of Microsoft software's in-campus especially the operating systems.
